Palm Sunday

March 24

The Unexpected King:  The picture is definitely of a king. He is righteous and victorious. His rule will extend to the ends of the earth. And he will bring peace to all the nations of the world and freedom from those imprisoned. This is definitely a king. But it is an unexpected king.

Recognize your Need to be at the Table:  Hezekiah - As we shift into full view of the Cross on Good Friday, we take a stop in the upper room with the disciples as Jesus institutes among the Lord’s Supper.  But how does King Hezekiah fit-in?  His desire was that all would keep the Passover.  Even though there were some hindrances that arose to such a decree, the result of the faithful keeping of this Feast was much joy and celebration in Jerusalem.  So, too, do we celebrate the Meal of Holy Communion – for in it, do we receive the body and blood of Jesus, for our forgiveness, according to His word.

Recognize the Need of Salvation:  Manasseh - What good can be said about Manasseh?  He was quite simply a horrible king.  He didn’t listen to the Lord, he sacrificed his sons as an offering, he was into omens and sorcery, and he demanded that the Israelites do everything he commanded them in complete defiance of God. Truth be told, in the moment of Good Friday when Jesus is taken the Cross, there isn’t much “good” to be said either.  It seems to be the ultimate failure, biggest lie exposes and most ridiculous story that could be created – that a man named Jesus could be God in the flesh. That could never happen.  Or could it?

Easter at NHUMC

Jesus Christ is Risen!  He has risen indeed!

March 31

Join us for our last Sunday in our "Recognize the King" sermon series - Recognize the True King:  The Lord Jesus Christ! - If there is one thing most true that could be said about all kings throughout Scripture, it’s this: All died.  Except one king, of course.  Jesus didn’t die, but rose again – establishing His reign that has no successor and has no possibility of defeat.  On this Easter Sunday, we look into the Tomb with the women in Matthew 28 and contemplate this event for ourselves as those who live in the Kingdom of God.  What does His resurrection mean for us?  And what sort of people are brought-in close to this King Jesus?
