CANCELLED STAMPS
$$$ used to purchase Bible Studies

More than $700,000 has been raised in the last 40 years by a group of volunteers in Shell Point Village in Fort Meyers FL. Ruth Graeter at NHUMC is heading up a volunteer group to harvest these stamps from mail you have received, whether foreign stamps, U.S. stamps (all issues printed with the first class rate), and special issue (higher value, nonprofit, bulk rate, etc.). Just bring in the envelope portion with the stamps still affixed. Later the envelope or paper to which they are attached will be trimmed leaving 1/4-1/2" margin around the stamps. A box is available at the Information Center in the Gathering Area for you to leave your stamps. Become a part of this mission to subsidize a Christian Publishing House in Argentina which is dedicated to writing and publishing Sunday School materials in Spanish just by saving your cancelled or uncancelled stamps.

For information, call Ruth at (210) 495-5930.

SENIOR MINISTRY

Northern Hills UMC has started a new ministry to assist senior church members. The mission of this ministry is to provide assistance or advice for our senior members who are finding it difficult to resolve home repair or other day-to-day problems. We are looking for volunteers, men and women, who are interested in developing relationships with our senior members. Volunteers may do home repairs as their skills permit or coordinate with other volunteers to provide needed assistance. In many cases all that is needed is some advice.

If you would like to volunteer or are a senior member
in need of assistance, please contact

THE AMARIS HOME

… where women facing a crisis pregnancy can find hope for the future. Jeremiah 1:5 says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart: I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Over the last couple of years, Adoption Priorities, Inc. has had the opportunity to work with a number of women in crisis pregnancy situations and it has been our experience that many of the women who call us for support, more often than not, have an immediate need for housing, food, and medical care during their pregnancy. Although we have been able to meet their basic needs, we have not had the opportunity to model a Christian way of living on a consistent basis, nor have we been able to mentor them to success or help them gain the life skills they lack. In January of 2010, Adoption Priorities, Inc. established "The Amaris Home Project" in an effort to address these and other important issues associated with crisis pregnancies. The Amaris Home, which opens in January 2011, will serve as a residential maternity home for women between the ages of 18 and 24 facing a crisis pregnancy where we can model Christian living and minister directly to their needs. As with any worthy project, we expect to face our fair share of challenges and know there is still a great deal of work to be done. We will be sharing more information about The Amaris Home Project as it develops. If you would like to be a part of this ministry as it grows or would simply like to learn more about The Amaris Home, please contact Mitchell at mitchell@adoptionpriorities.com or Amanda Way at amanda@adoptionpriorities.com.

THE CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE

The San Antonio Catholic Worker House has a new director, Clare Ferguson. "Many of you purchased Christmas gifts from the Giving Tree. Since opening the house in 1985, we have sought to provide care, comfort, and support to the homeless of San Antonio. Our ministries offer a temporary home to homeless families and a weekday soup line to individuals in need. We base our ministry on Matthew 25:40 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' We do our work following the philosophy of the Catholic Worker Movement which emphasizes faith-centered action, personalism, community building, nonviolence, simple living, and a respect for the environment. As an independent and faith-based community, we do our work with the belief that God will provide for our needs through the community surrounding us - people of different faiths, races, and economic conditions. We do not accept government funding, and we are not under the auspices of any institutional church or diocese. We rely on volunteer labor and the donations of those who believe in what we are doing. Come and visit the Catholic Worker House. We will be happy to show you around and if you come during soup line (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) you can even stay for lunch. Visiting is always a good way to find out more about what we do, and is a good chance to meet some of the folks from the local community who have come in to enjoy a meal with us."

Catholic Worker House is located at 622 Nolan St., San Antonio 78202. To volunteer or donate, contact Clare at (210) 224-2932 or visit our website at www.sa-catholicworker.org.

THE VINE AND WELLNESS GROUP
A Counseling Ministry

With the start of the new year, most of us have begun to evaluate the things in our lives that need changing and will develop New Year's resolutions to address them. That's the easy part. Now comes the "changing" which consists of the awareness of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, consistency, and follow through. Here's how to help you keep those New Year's resolutions and feel successful in the process:

  • Determine your goals—Choose one goal to focus on.
  • Be realistic with your goal and expectations—Expect the change to come with its challenges.
  • Consistency—Stay focused. You're more likely to stay on track if you can ask for help and stay hopeful.
  • Follow through—THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP! Stick with the goal for at least 21 days OR MORE.

If you are one that desires change but need professional support and guidance, we are available and happy to help!
