The S.A.F.E. at Northern Hills Support Group provides a safe atmosphere and a structured, 12-week program for those who self-harm, but who also desire to change their behavior. This group is meant to help the participants understand there is another way of living that is waiting for them to try. The group uses Christ-based stories from the Bible to learn about how people handle difficult and/or stressful situations, as well as non-faith based question/ answer activities to learn how to apply what they learn to everyday living.
The goals of the group are to help attendees:
- Increase the awareness of destructive behaviors.
- Increase the awareness of the consequences of destructive behaviors.
- Increase the awareness of feelings and when they occur.
- Learn to identify feelings before they occur.
- Learn to tolerate feelings.
- Learn constructive techniques to verbalize feelings.
- Apply these constructive coping techniques to daily living.
