Music

There are several ways for adults to participate in music at Northern Hills.

Sanctuary Choir

The sanctuary choir has grown in musicianship and number over the last two years, and as a result will participate in various community events such as singing the National Anthem for the Spurs and singing downtown on the River Walk during the Christmas season and preparing for special Christmas Eve services.

This group rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:30.

Childcare is available.

We sing each week in the Traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 and various special services throughout the year, including Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas. Now is the time to join for the 2015-2016 season so we can plan to have enough music for everyone!

The Current Music Team

The Current worships with high energy contemporary Christian music primarily from within the last decade. The music team is made up of volunteers, and because of the intricacies of modern music arrangements, the precise instrumentation and voicing of the group may vary from week to week.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 8:15 pm. An informal audition is required.

Oasis Music Team

Oasis worships with a thoroughly intergenerational repertoire of music, including
hymns, the latest contemporary Christian songs, praise choruses from the 70s and 80s, and everything in between. The music team is made up of volunteers, and it includes singers and modern band instrumentation.

Rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm. An informal audition is required.

La Roca Sunday Music Team / Equipo de Música de La Roca los Domingos

La Roca is a bilingual worship service, and as with Oasis there is a thorough mix of contemporary and traditional Christian music styles, but also including traditional and contemporary Latino Christian music. The music team is made up of volunteers and it includes modern band instrumentation.

Rehearsals are Sundays at 12:30 m. An informal audition is required.

Because of the bilingual nature of the worship service, some capacity with both English and Spanish is helpful for singers.

La Roca’s Wednesday night bilingual service is focused specifically on prayer, and as with the Sunday La Roca service, the music repertoire is varied between traditional, contemporary, and Latino. The music team is made up of volunteers, and it includes modern band instrumentation.

Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 5:00 pm. An informal audition is required.

Because of the bilingual nature of the worship service, some capacity with both English and Spanish is helpful for singers.

Offered as a community service, NHUMC holds open guitar classes every Wednesday at 7:00 pm during the school year. These classes are primarily geared toward beginning guitar students, but intermediate to advanced instruction may be available as needed. The only cost is a recommended $5 donation to the Dollars of Hope ministry, and because of the open nature of the class, registration is not required.
